Coffee Cake Muffins

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups sifted flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1 well-beaten egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or 1/4 cup pecans
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon butter, softened
Directions
- 1 Sift 1 1/2\u00b0C flour, sugar, baking powder and salt into mixing bowl.
- 2 Cut in shortening till mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 3 Mix egg and milk.
- 4 Add all at once to flour mixture.
- 5 Stir just until moistened.
- 6 Combine brown sugar, nuts, 1 T.
- 7 flour, cinnamon and butter.
- 8 Place half of the batter in greased or paper lined muffin pans.
- 9 Sprinkle nut mixture evenly over each one.
- 10 Top with remaining batter.
- 11 Bake in 350 degree oven for about 20 minutes.
